Overview

Collecting, categorizing, disseminating information is something that I have done all of my professional life.  I feel as though the Web was made for me.  The Web provides me with the opportunity to share information, create communities, and provide a public service.  I was an early adopter of the Web and have added every new feature to my collection of tools to use it better.  Nearly two million visitors from more than twenty-five countries have explored the Rochester, New York Web site.  My Web sites are profitable and supported by advertising.

What is ironic is that I created these Web sites as a means of finding work.  I wanted to show off what I could do in the way of content development.  Every few days I receive an email from a job seeker wanting to join my company-my company of one.  It is also ironic that some employers have not considered me for Web publishing jobs because they didn't believe I could have produced so many Web sites and so much content by myself.  Others seem to have been scared off because they thought that I wouldn't give up these sites to work for their company. 

The truth is that I am a fast and efficient Web Producer.  When I worked at Global Crossing, I used to take  pictures at employee birthday parties.  Those images were imaged processed and published to a Web site in about an hour, much to the amazement of everyone concerned.  When I present workshops on Web publishing I bet my audience that I can produce a Web page in less than a minute and a fully functional 30+ page Web site in less than five minutes.  I have never lost a bet.

Publishing Web sites fast are nothing more than parlor tricks to demystify to the process of Web publishing.  What I find much more interesting is producing Web-based content.  Producing a Web site in five minutes or less demonstrates clearly the challenges of filling those pages with content. 

Every corporate Web site on the Web could benefit from having more content.  Nearly every consumer will validate this claim.
