Intellectual Property
© 2009 Max Lent
Introduction
Intellectual property's role in global economic
competition cannot be overestimated. Corporations that
understand the value of intellectual property may survive. Those
corporations that don't understand the value of intellectual property
are sure to fail.
Intellectual property is not just about patents and
law. The process of discovering intellectual property,
establishing its value, and marketing it may begin before legal
departments become involved. Mining existing corporate patents
for value that is marketable is just one aspect of intellectual
property. What is more challenging is mining corporate knowledge
for business processes for IP, reaching out to corporate intellectual
capital assets (inventors and researchers) to discover new ways of
marketing existing and future IP, and marketing IP in new and
innovative ways.
This Web page was initially developed as a means of
organizing my collection of hyper links to IP-related Web sites.
Over time it has grown, but it should not be considered the ultimate
source of links to IP-related resources. The best dedicated IP
site on the Web is The
Intellectual Property Law Server. I have linked to many of
its pages below and included other resources that were not listed or
that I could not find.

Lawrence Lessig Web
site. Comment: No contemporary discussion about
intellectual property or copyright would be complete without
consideration of Lawrence Lessig's views on the topic. Lessig is
one of those people who gets it. His lectures, available online,
are stunningly thought provoking.
