Travel Industry Consulting
During the development of
Travelconsumer.com I visited
the government, tourism, and commercial Web sites for hundreds of
countries. I learned a great deal about travel Web sites.
Out of more than two hundred official tourism Web sites less than five
met minimal quality standards. As a courtesy, I emailed spell
checked copy from many of the tourism Web sites back to them corrected.
I must have identified more than a hundred broken links on these sites.
Based on what I have seen in my research of
international government and tourism Web sites, there is a great deal
that I can do to assist travel industry businesses and organizations to
develop better Web sites that include the kind of information that
travelers seek.
It is no secret that nearly anyone with Internet access
plans at least some of their travel using the Web. It is no secret
what happens when a country that depends on tourism revenue fails to
develop an inviting and useful Web presence. Tourists go to the
countries they can research online. Countries that lack
competitive tourism Web sites are losing money. Within countries,
regional and city Web sites, when they exist, often lack the most basic
information that tourists seek. Again, lost revenue. Within
countries, tourism industry Web sites such as hotels, restaurants,
airlines, cruise ships, and more lose money if their sites are not
competitively information rich and visually attractive.
